Time: 10 am – 2 pm (Swedish time)!

Where: Zoom

The Belt and Road Institute in Sweden, in collaboration with the Embassy of Pakistan and the Embassy of The Peoples’ Republic of China will host a special webinar on April 28 on the subject of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its implications for the economic devdelopment of Pakistan, for international investors, and the surrounding region and the world.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) launched in 2013, is completing its first stage, early harvest projects that are concentrated on building the power generation capacity and transport infrastructure. This infrastructure is necessary to launch the second phase of the CPEC which will focus on industrialization and agricultural development. The role of China, which is emerging as the world’s largest industrial and technological capacity builder and largest economic and trade partner of Pakistan, is, of course, a major factor in this process. But there are opportunities for other nations too.

The comparative advantages provided by this rejuvenation of the Pakistani basic economic infrastructure for the international community, investors and trade are less known. Pakistan, in terms of both human and natural resources, has a great and relatively unexplored potential. Standing on the infrastructure platform being provided by the CPEC already, not only Chinese, but also European and other international investors would be surprised by what Pakistan can offer.

To learn more about CPEC and explore this potential and the advantages and facilities provided by the Pakistani state for foreign investors, especially in the planned Special Economic and Industrial Zones, the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden, and the Embassy of Pakistan to Sweden would like to invite you to this webinar.

The webinar will be divided into two sessions, 2 hours each. The first part is dedicated to the CPEC and Pakistani SEZs.

A Community for a Shared Future

The second session will host European and international experts to discuss the BRI in the larger context. Given the tense international strategic situation, it is very important to identify the points of agreement among East and West, especially the goals of economic cooperation, trade, and elimination of poverty and development.  These being common goals of mankind, it is necessary to provide factual and objective knowledge of the nature of the BRI and why it is the best model to built a mechanism of cooperation and dialog among all nations. The idea of win-win cooperation is not a political slogan or gimmick. It is a provable economic and scientific method. The precedent for this notion is built on the nation of each nation thinking about “the advantage of the other” as stipulated in the Peace of Westphalia treaty (1648), which ended the terrible 30-Years War. To achieve peace, stability, and prosperity, it is important for each nation to look beyond its own narrow interests. To establish “a community of a shared future for mankind” as expressed by President Xi Jinping, it is necessary today, especially with the global crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic, to find the common ground for dialog and cooperation among all nations.

We welcome you to explore and discuss these issues in our webinar!

Participation is free of charge, but preregistration is required!
