In this webcast / podcast from the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden, Hussein Askary discusses with Professor Chen Xiangming, Director of Urban Studies Program and Distinguished Professor of Global Urban Studies and Sociology at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut (USA), the history of relations between China and Africa, their status now, and where they could lead in the future.
The focus is on the China-Africa cooperation to jointly build the Belt and Road.
Professor Chen presents many examples of this relationship and explains in detail certain bilateral cooperation processes from Djibouti and Ethiopia as a model of this cooperation. Infrastructure development is a key aspect of this process, followed by localization of industries through industrial parks.
The discussion also deals with the lessons that Africa have learned from China’s own development from a poor country into a prosperous industrial power.
